How to Take Proper Care of Your Automatic Garage Door

garage door tracksAn automatic garage door is an investment that should last for many years, even decades, if it is well-maintained. There are certain things you can do monthly, quarterly, and annually to extend the life of your automatic garage door and ensure that it always works when you need it.

If you are not comfortable performing any of the following maintenance tips, please contact Perfect Solutions Garage Door for a free quote. We can service and repair all types of automatic garage doors. Our service areas are Granite, Auburn, Roseville, Rocklin, and El Dorado, California.

Here are three simple maintenance tips for taking care of your automatic garage door:

1.     Clean & Inspect the Garage Door Tracks

Take a few minutes to inspect and wipe down your garage door tracks once a month. Look for any dents or bumps that could cause the door to go off track. Make sure to also remove any gunk or debris that has accumulated along the tracking. You can use a damp cloth to clean the tracks, as long as you thoroughly dry them once they are clean.

2.     Check & Replace Weather Seals

The weather sealant on your garage door protects your garage from moisture and cold air. Run your hand slowly along the seal, checking for any tears or cracks. Do this at least quarterly. A good trick is checking it every time the seasons change, since sudden temperature changes can cause damage. Perfect Solutions Garage Door can help you replace the seal if it is not in optimal working condition.

3.     Lubricate Your Automatic Garage Door

If your garage door is not gliding smoothly or if it is making a lot of noise, it may require lubricant. We do not recommend that you use WD-40 on your automatic garage parts. It is better to invest in a professional silicone or lithium spray lubricant. You should only spray the lubricant on the arm bar, chain rail, hinges, and metal rollers with ball bearings. Do not spray any on the spring, chain, or bottom of the chain rail. If you are unsure of how to properly lubricate your garage door, please feel free to contact Perfect Solutions Garage Doors.

Your garage door is a big investment, and it is important to take proper care of it. All it takes is these three simple steps to ensure it is functioning properly. If you come across any issues during your monthly, quarterly, or annual maintenance check, please give the team at Perfect Solutions Garage Door a call.
