Since this is an HOA community we had to get the exact same door.

After finding out who is the manufacturer and the model number we were able to order the door. Since it took 2 days to arrive we secured the damaged garage door and put a note to not touch if fearing it might fall.

2 days later we arrived to Amy’s house removed the old door and started the preparation to install the new garage door.

After removing all the tracks, damaged panels and all the hardware we started assembling the new door.

Few Hours later Amy got her garage back, we lubricated the new door and her garage door opener and made sure everything is working properly. After 1

Garage Door Opens/Closes Randomly

One issue that home owners sometimes deal is the garage door randomly opens for no reason at all. This is not a common problem; however, it is not entirely impossible either. While this can be rather frustrating, it can also be dangerous for a number of reasons.

The garage door is a shield or first defense for families and their valuables. It could be disastrous, if your garage door decides to open for no apparent reason. Criminals will have easy access to your property. Worse than that, if it opens while family is resting in bed, criminals will have access to your family.

Inferior Technology

There are a number of reasons why your garage door suddenly opens on its own. Older garage door openers can be activated by the neighbor’s automatic opener. Today garage door openers are equipped with a feature referred to as a rolling code.

Each time you raise or lower your garage door the remote generates a new code to prevent thieves from entering your home. Those which are 20 years old or older were not designed with a large assortment of codes. It is therefore more likely that the neighbor’s remote is the culprit of your garage door’s strange behavior.

There are a number of possible causes and knowing which the culprit is may help identify an appropriate solution. For example, in 1993 garage door opener companies redesigned their products with safety features. One of these is a sensor mechanism and it was added to prevent accidental garage door injury. The sensor eye may need to be cleaned or the beam may be misaligned.

Interestingly enough, older garage door openers from Stanley were engineered with flawed circuit boards. This defect common caused doors to spontaneously open. It is best to contact your local garage door expert to have a modern opener installed.

Other Culprits

  • Power surges from wiring defects may cause this odd behavior as well.
  • Lightning storms are another cause of power surges and odd garage door behavior.
  • Another cause can be items that the opener is stored with, especially plain old traditional junk.
  • In some cases, the garage door opener can be triggered by the frequency that neighboring military equipment uses.

Note: In the event that there is an issue with the wiring, you should contact a professional to inspect the system to resolve it. This includes the garage door system as well as the power source it is plugged into.

Frequency Issue

It is uncommon for anything to accidently activate your garage door opener. This does not mean that it is entirely impossible. There are numerous common devices which can trigger it due to the frequency those devices employ. Below is a list of several; however, it is not all of the possibilities. It does lend insight into the type of devices which do utilize frequencies and therefore may trigger the opener.

  • Neighboring airports
  • Wireless Wi/Fi Networks
  • Radio, TV, and/or Cell Towers
  • Wireless Doorbells
  • Plug-in Transformers like Security Systems
  • Cordless Phones
  • Ham Radio

It may not be possible to figure out exactly why your garage door operates itself.  In most cases, home owners opt to replace the garage door auto-opener system completely, especially if, the system is outdated. Call us at Perfect Solutions Garage Door Repair to schedule your opener installation project today.

Why Repurpose Your Old Garage Door

When garage doors are no longer functioning well, it is only right to consider replacing them with a new one from a reliable garage door company.  Imagine how much you would have to spend for maintenance if your garage door gets broken every week.  However, one question needs to be asked: What happens to the old garage door?

Repurposing Your Old Garage Door

You may immediately think of disposing it to a landfill or sending it to be recycled, but don’t be too hasty because even though old garage doors may not be useful for your garage, it can still be useful for other things, especially considering the materials they are made of.

Repurposing is a good way to deal with an old garage door and give it a new life.  Here are some compelling reasons to repurpose instead of disposing old garage doors:

  1. To avoid waste of useful materials

Your old garage door may not be fit to guard the contents of your garage anymore, but the materials it’s made of are still usable and it would be wasteful to just put them on a landfill. The panels of a wooden garage door for example can be converted into a cabinet for your clothes. Your metal garage door panels can be used to make a safe.  Imagination is the limit to the things you can do with your old garage door materials.

  1. For the environment

Wasting your old garage door materials is also a burden to the environment. For example, if you buy a new wooden coffee table, some trees will have to be cut to make them. You can save some trees by re-using the wood from the garage door panels to make one.  Metals are mined from under the earth and the more mines there are, the more damage it may do to the ecosystem. So instead of buying new metal furniture, use instead the panels from the metal garage door and help save the planet.

  1. To make money

If you are savvy with tools and have a hidden artistic talent, you can make money by making artworks out of the materials from your old garage door. Maybe you can use the wood panels as an elegant photo frame and the metal panel into unique modern art.  Then you can sell them at the flea market for some cold cash. You can also sell the old garage door itself to some companies who will repair and refurbish it for those people who are looking for cheaper options

  1. Donating it

Donating your old garage to charity like for example to the group Habitat for Humanity, does not only give your garage a new purpose, it also  gives you that sense of  fulfillment  and joy that can only come from helping others. Charities will sell these garage door materials and the money is going to be used for their projects.

Don’t Dispose of Your Old Garage Doors

Don’t dispose of your old garage doors right away. Think first if there is something else you can use it for. The materials used in these doors are high-quality, especially if you have purchased it from a reputable garage door company. They are perfect for furniture, home decor, and modern art. You can also make money from them or help others by donating them to charity.
