Large Metal Garage Door Installation

Our customer, Antonio, had a very large building built for all the vehicles he owns.

Once construction on the building was finished, the last step was to install large metal garage doors to close in the building and provide adequate environmental protection to Antonio’s vehicles. The doors will also provide security for the valuable property inside.

The opening we had to work with was 10 feet wide by 14 feet high. That’s a BIG space! It isn’t challenging to find doors this size, however Antonio wanted doors that didn’t look too commercial. Ideally, he wanted garage doors that had the same look and feel of residential garage doors.

In addition, Antonio he wanted as much natural light coming into the building as possible, however he did NOT want all glass garage doors either.

Basically, he wanted a residential garage door with a window panel but in a size generally reserved for commercial garage doors.

The end result was these beautiful 24 gauge garage doors, with upper window panels.

We were able to add more natural light by adding two panels worth of windows instead of 1, which still look great since the doors are so tall.

Check out just how big these are as compared to our installer

Garage Door Opener Installation

In addition to the new doors, we also installed 2 LiftMaster 8500 Jack shaft garage door openers

The jack shaft opener installs on the wall instead of the ceiling for extra height in the garage. Paired with high lift tracks, you can get the garage doors almost flush with the ceiling to allow for maximum clearance.

The garage door openers are quiet, and have a battery backup so they will still open even if the power goes out. They also include WiFi connectivity so Antonio can open and close the doors from a tablet or smartphone.

This installation wasn’t easy, but it came out perfect and everyone is happy with the results!

Gallery Collection by Clopay Garage Door Installation

This Roseville, CA was built 15 years ago. The doors the house was built with were very simple, had no windows and no insulation. Every summer, the garage was very hot, and the homeowner was frustrated. He wanted to work in his garage year round.

After 15 years, they decided to replace the garage doors. They wanted something with style, with windows, and a door that was insulated.

They looked at tons of styles and ultimately decided upon the Gallery collection by Clopay. The biggest draw to these doors was that they come heavily insulated.

This style also had big windows. The outside of the door is painted to look like wood, with a wood grain paint,  so it gave them a unique style.

They chose the “Dark Oak” finish. The door itself, while painted to look like wood, is actually made of steel. Steel is very durable and much easier to maintain than real wood. It’s also less expensive.

The doors also have the carriage house style they loved. The groove panel design of the door and it’s raised panels, allow this steel door to have a vintage carriage house look.

The insulation on these doors can range from an R value of 6.3 to 18.4 depending on where you live, and what you are looking for.

The homeowners also chose some decorative wrought iron hardware to complement their new doors.

The after pictures are gorgeous. And most importantly, the homeowners are so happy with their new garage doors.

Changing out your garage doors can instantly give your home updated curb appeal, and is immediate equity into your home. The builder basic white doors this home had before looked cookie cutter and didn’t offer any practical features like insulation or natural light from the windows.

Simply changing out the garage doors gives this home an updated and custom look. Great to enjoy, and great for resale!

Installing Custom Wood Carriage House Garage Doors

Our latest project for clients in El Dorado Hills, CA was installing custom wood carriage house doors as a way to make over their exterior.

Carriage House doors are very popular, not only for their looks, but for their quality. Upgrading to Carriage House doors can help increase the value of your home!

The doors were just fine before the switch, as you can see. They definitely needed some fresh paint after the sun pounded on them for years and weathered the doors. But otherwise, not bad.

The Carriage House doors that these clients installed are steel-backed wood garage doors. People love the old-world style and look they bring to their home.

The doors we installed are from the Carriage House Company. They do a great job of blending the style with function and updated technology. You get to have beautiful wood doors that don’t compromise on safety or quality.

You can see the difference in this side by side – one set of doors have been installed.

Remember how we said the existing doors weren’t that bad. You can really tell the difference here!

The darker wood of the new carriage house doors really compliments the house’s exterior paint and really updates the look.

In addition to the beautiful doors, the decorative hardware and customization options available on these custom carriage house doors elevate the look even further.

The metal details really help define a specific look. Other custom options include more metal accents, as well as decorative windows. The options are almost endless when you go for custom doors. Some popular styles include: Cambridge, Virginia, Carolina, Barcelona, Tuscan, Park City and Santiago. You can see what these look like here.

Below is the completed project, with both sets of carriage house doors installed. Looks amazing! And most importantly, our clients were more than satisfied!

Garage Door Replacement Project: My Son Ran Into the Garage Doors!

We recently received a call from Paula that her garage doors weren’t looking so hot and that she might need a garage door replacement. We came out to see what she was talking about. Look what we found when we drove up:

BEFORE

Not looking so hot? That’s an understatement, Paula. Apparently Paula’s teenage son had a bit of an accident and drove into the garage doors. She called us immediately and we sent a tech out to take a look at the damage.

We decided with Paula that replacing the doors was the best solution. Her other garage door was also damaged so at that point it made sense to go ahead and replace both.

After considering several options, we eventually landed on the UDT short panel 25 gauge doors. Since they aren’t custom doors, we were able to go and get the ones she picked, and install them THE SAME DAY!

INSTALLATION

Since the springs were still loaded on the damaged garage doors, the tech first needed to put the old door back on it’s tracks. After that, he was able to safely remove both garage doors. After those were out of the way, we removed the old rotted wood we found. Then, we installed and anchored a new seal plate and framed out the new openings. Then, we replaced the tracks, and installed the new doors! Once the new doors were in we installed the trim and a vapor barrier, followed by wire reinforcement for the stucco. Now, cosmetics! We re-stuccoed the wall that was affected by the accident and installation, and matched the texture. Final step is repainting the stucco, and voila! Good as new!

AFTER

The repair and installation went smoothly, and Paula’s doors look great! The UDT doors Paula chose came with a lifetime cracks and rust warranty which are much more durable than the doors she had previously. They might not withstand another ramming from her teenager, BUT they will stand up better to every day wear and tear.

Since this is an HOA community we had to get the exact same door.

After finding out who is the manufacturer and the model number we were able to order the door. Since it took 2 days to arrive we secured the damaged garage door and put a note to not touch if fearing it might fall.

2 days later we arrived to Amy’s house removed the old door and started the preparation to install the new garage door.

Glass Garage Doors

More and more home owner are considering glass for their garage doors. Most all garage doors will require replacement at some point and time, especially if the family spends several decades in the home. Many home owners replace their garage doors to simply give their homes a fresh, new look. There is a wide range of options to consider when garage door shopping in today’s market.

Glass for garage doors has many advantages and, of course, it has a few disadvantages. A garage door specialist is best qualified to provide your family with these as well as all of your exciting options. Remember that a new garage door is an extremely important home investment which should be carefully weighed before making any commitment.

Glass Door Advantages

As mentioned, glass for garage doors offers several benefits. For example, glass lends a sophisticated appeal to the entire home. This increases the value of the home and the property for resale. It can also be beneficial, if there are strict zoning regulations for curb appeal. Consider some of these other benefits.

  • Home owners have the choice to coordinate the windows in their new garage door with their home’s windows offering it a bit of personalization and customization.
  • Smaller glass windows along the upper portion of the garage door can allow natural light to enter the garage. This is especially beneficial, if the garage doubles as a home office, rec room, or workshop. Natura light will immediately banish the dark and gloom that often plagues garages.
  • Glass offers many stylish options because of the variety of sizes and shapes. It is also possible to find stained or tinted options as well, if the family wants to retain the shade in the garage area.
  • Professionally installed glass garage doors are made of sturdy and durable materials. They generally only require simple, minimal routine maintenance. Rust is not generally an issue for these types of doors either.

Disadvantages of Glass Garage Doors

All decisions, purchases, and investments have at least a few disadvantages. The goal should be to weigh the pro against he cons in order to decide which suits your family and home best. For example, home owners often find that glass for the garage door, while absolutely gorgeous, is also one of the more expensive options. Opting for glass can increase the cost by anywhere from $200 to over $500.

  • Many home owners decide against glass for security and safety reasons. Glass makes it easier for criminals to not only see into the home, but to gain entrance.
  • Though insulated glass is available it is not generally air tight like those with no glass.
  • The insulated type glass is also more expensive.
  • Installation of the glass may take a bit longer than standard garage doors.
  • Glass is much more fragile and is susceptible to stray ball or storm ravaged tree limb.

The Latest When It Comes to Garage Doors

Garage doors have truly come a long way from being creaky and rusty doors that house dirty garages and even dirtier cars. Before, it was simply a design afterthought versus the living room, bedrooms, roofs, and gardens. Today, garage doors are considered not just for their function, but also for their aesthetic qualities. Designers, architects, and interior designers are taking these to the next level. Garage doors finish the great exterior of houses and even the interiors as it is steadily being incorporated in layouts as walls and dividers in a much more unconventionally chic way to spruce up the space.

Because of its industrial feel, garage doors lend a quick quirky and unique feel to any space. It is not as imposing as a wall and not as formal as a proper door and because of this, retail spaces, creative offices, and even homes are lining up to find the perfect garage doors for their properties.

However, it still pays to know the latest when it comes to installing garage doors. After all, these are still primarily for security purposes and are quite costly. Read on to learn more about the latest when it comes to garage doors:

  1. Insulation is better

These days, garage doors don’t just keep the intruders and wild animals out. It also keeps the heat or cold in the house to help in managing utility bills. Garage doors are much more insulated to help in making the home more comfortable and with no extra charges on electricity. When installing a new door or fixing an old one, insulation must be carefully looked into.

  1. They are not as noisy

Gone are the days of screeching noises as the garage door goes down or up as the family car is placed inside. However, this may be a good and a bad thing. The noise signals to the homeowners inside that someone is about to enter the house while the noiseless opening helps burglars come in without warning.  So aside from a great door, a good garage door provider should also be able to give options on how to better secure the home with sensors, locks, or CCTV cameras to be installed by the door and can be viewed from inside the house.

  1. They have built-in batteries

Thanks to technology, garage doors are now electricity connected and can quickly be opened with the help of a remote. However, what happens when the electricity suddenly shuts off during emergencies? It is better and more advisable to have garage doors with built in batteries.

  1. Carriage house-style garage doors are the rage

Among all the types of garage doors, this type is the most fashionable among all and has the stamp of approval of most architects and designers. It is not as expensive to produce and is highly customizable. It is also easy to install for those quick projects especially for rented spaces for business. Today, manufacturers have found a way to improve it from 21-inch panels to 28-inch ones making it all the more design-friendly.

  1. Technology has gone a long way with MyQ Technology

This capability helps in keeping tabs on the door even while on vacation. Gone are the days of telling the neighbors to take a look at the house every day when one is away overseas. With this technology, homeowners can access their garage doors with the help of a smartphone or computer. Internet connection is all it needs.

If you are in the process of building or renovating your home and you want a garage door installed, consider the latest features above. Consult your designer and your trusted garage door company for their recommendations when it comes to the best garage door type for your home.
